Anceint Feudal Baronies of Gask, Coulgask and Aberuthven

According to The Register of the Great Seal of Scotland, A.D. 1660-1668, edited by John Horne Stevenson, it contains the following entry #366: Edinburgh, February 2. A Charter by Charles II grating to Mr. Lawrence Oliphant, second son of Sir Laurence Oliphant of Gask, knight, his heirs male as assignees whomsoever, - the following;

GASK The lands and barony of Gask with manor-place, etc., comprehending the towns and lands of Over and Nether Gask, Keirwoodhead, Hooltoun of Gask, Caithmoore, Rosse, and the new mill, Westerclathie, Muirhead, Drumend and Cairnwathie, Claithbeg, with the cure and the church lands of Findogask Woods, and salmon fishings and other fishings, in the water of Garne, with special privilege of and fishing therein for 3 days in the week, and special power of building and upkeeping the Crooves on the said water - all lying in the parish of Fingask and sheriffdom of Perth, with the office of baillie of all the lands, formerly belonging to the Abbey of Inchaffray, with all rights and privileges thereof,

COULGASK also, the lands and barony of Coulgask, with mills and fishings, comprehending the following, viz., the mains of Coulgask, the town and lands of the Drum of Coulgask, Western and Easter with the mill of Coulgask etc., the lands of Chapelhill of Coulgask, with the woods and meadows of Coulgask, Woodend called the Fosters Land, and the Ward within the said woods, and those two parts of the said lands, commonly called Priest's Croft and Shewing Bushes, with pertinients, - all lying in the barony of Coulgask and stewartry of Stratherne and sheriffdom of Perth as principal;

ABERUTHVEN and in special warrandice, the lands and barony of Aberuthven, with milllands, etc., with salmon fishing on the water of Erne, with power of erecting Cruces, - all in the sheriffdom of Perth - with all teinds, parsonage and vicarage; ...reserving to the said Sir Laurence all the above lands etc., during his life in liferent, under the special provision in the contract between him (with consent of Patrick Oliphant, his eldest son) and the said Mr. Lawrence, dated at Gask 26th May and 6th June 1656; - which lands formerly belonged to the said Sir Laurence and were resigned by him for new infeftment in favour of the said Mr. Lawrence - one sasine to be sufficient at the manor-house of Gask. Rendering therefore annually, the said Mr. Lawrence, his heirs male and assignees, for the lands and barony of Gask, one white rose in blenchferm; and for the office of baillie of the Abbey of Inchaffray, one penny in name of blench-ferm; and for the lands of Coulgask, etc., one penny blenchferm; and for the teinds, etc., the dues and services used and wont.
